How To Find Peace & Purpose In A World Of Crazy

{I was blessed by Family Christian with a copy of Alli Worthington’s book Breaking Busy to read and review. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.}

I knew right away after reading just the title “Breaking Busy” that I wanted to read this book. After just a few pages I knew I needed to read this book. I have been feeling quite overwhelmed lately with trying to figure out how to fit everything into my busy day. This book came to me at the most perfect time in my life.

Coincidence – no, I don’t think so!

God – yes, I believe that would be it!

Breaking Busy book review. A life manual to help you maintain a fulfilled life by Breaking Busy.

The title is intriguing just with those two simple words. We live in a world of crazy and busy. Add them together and things can definitely get crazy-busy.

I have to be honest with you. I really thought this was going to be another “how-to” book. You know the kind. The book that breaks things down for us and tells us to just say NO to obligations. Making it all seem so simple but nothing that truly changes our busyness.

This book was so much more than a “how-to.” I can not express to you enough how much this book is so much more than a quick “feel good” book.

A manual is what comes to mind when I think about Breaking Busy.

Why do I say this will be my manual?

After you have read the book from cover to cover you won’t want to get rid of it. You will want to keep it for reference. The chapters are clearly titled in the Table of Contents so you can quickly locate the area you are struggling with and need help in. In the author’s writing she brings you into her world and her experiences, providing you with the same proven action steps she takes to Break Busy in her own life. These action steps can be found at the end of each chapter making them easy to refer to when you feel yourself getting stuck in the vortex of busy again. These are serious and real life issues that most of us deal with regularly. Issues such as: family, marriage, worship, spiritual growth, and relationships.

The most outstanding aspect to these steps is that Alli Worthington provides biblical scripture to back up her plans and steps to break the busy in our lives. She doesn’t just tell us “hey, stop being so busy!” She brings our attention to God’s words by leading us to scripture affirming that God does not intend us to lead such busy lives. The busy lives that lead so many of us to feel anxiety, negative thoughts, and worry. The busy life that makes us feel like we will be so happy when fill in the blank happens. Realizing that God isn’t bringing you all the things that are keeping you busy really makes you stop and think.
