Brinkman Adventures

We love Audio Dramas so I was thrilled to receive the digital version of Season 6: Underground Rising from Brinkman Adventures. It’s hard to imagine what our homeschool was like before them. They are a true staple now. Adding Brinkman Adventures was pure bliss to our ears.

But first… a little about them!

Brinkman Adventures, produced by Beachglass Ministries, is an audiobook series based on a real family of missionaries, in real events, in real times of hardship and trials. These wonderful Adventures show the importance of missionaries all over the world, and how choosing the righteous path is always the right path.

What is now Brinkman Adventures was created by Ian Bultman in 2009. He was doing a Bible study and had an inspirational moment. He would later ‘Create a missionary radio show that will inspire future missionaries.’ He wrote the first three stories himself, and used his children as the voice actors, along with others hired from the area. From 2009 to 2015, Brinkman Adventures had created forty-eight radio shows that touched thousands of people a week. Their business runs solely on the money that comes in from CD and downloads purchases. They also give money for mission fundings.

What we received.

We were given the season 6: Underground Rising Digital Download audiobook. There are 6 thirty minute tracks, with four stories;

•Dutch Underground (Parts 1 and 2)
•Twice Born Fly
•I Wonder Why
•Free Burma Rangers (Parts 1 and 2)

Dutch Underground is an intense story of the Brinkman’s great-grandparents, Lynn and Reng, in the fight against the Nazis. They help Jews that are being threatened by Hitler’s forces while helping the Onderduikers, or people who are running and hiding from the Germans. This story demonstrates true courage from a young family who relies solely upon God for guidance in times of turmoil.

Twice Born Fly is one of the cutest stories! Little Charlie Brinkman and his friend discover a fly pupa. They watch as the miracle of life hatches in front of them. But, poor Charlie was so amazed when he gasped at the sight of nature unfolding before him, he sucked up the little fly and swallowed it! He feared dying, but his family reassured him that he wouldn’t die. His father explained a dream he had, that represented what Jesus does for us. Charlie doesn’t have to fear death when you’re a Christian because Jesus gives us eternal life in heaven with Him.

I Wonder Why is a heart-tugging tale about a missionary family who moves to India and takes care of orphans who have not been loved. They face many trials, like poisonous beetles, allergies, rude kids, and jungle dangers. Jesus worked in their lives in miraculous ways, and as everything always does, works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose.

And finally, Free Burma Rangers. Free Burma Rangers is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat story about Dave Eubank, a young man who grew up with his missionary family in Thailand who dreams of being a Green Beret. He chases his dreams, but doesn’t stay ‘in touch’ with God and goes astray. Dave realizes as he gets older that he had not relied on God and he changes his heart. He goes back to his roots and helps the people in the bombing zone in now-Myanmar, with the Brinkman family’s ministry.

How we used it.

There are a few ways to use this audiobook package. Since the stories are short, they can be used in Bible study time. But… if your kids are super into the first one like mine were, you can just listen to the whole thing all at once. Another way to use it is to do research! Pick one, read about the country, the culture, the history, etc. and read the real stories page on the Brinkman Adventures website. These thrilling audiobooks are also wonderful for long or short car rides, due to the short length of many stories.

Our final thoughts!

We absolutely LOVED this audio adventure! It is certainly a magnificent way to incorporate the Bible into everyday life and the stories are touching. It shows the importance of missionaries around the world and around your neighborhood. We know the saving power of Jesus Christ, but others may not. And God has called us on an important mission; to spread the Good News to all tribes and nations.

10-year-old son’s thoughts;

“This is a great audiobook. My favorite one was Free Burma Rangers because it is amazing that they can be missionaries in the hard times and trust God.”

12-year-old son’s thoughts;

“They had a great storyline and I really like the fact that there were scriptures in each one. My favorite was Dutch Underground because it was the funniest.”

14-year-old daughter’s thoughts;

“These audiobooks are wonderful! I was touched by each of these stories. It’s amazing, people have such big hearts and are willing to drop everything for the good of His kingdom. I look up to the people who go to other countries and spread the Word. It takes amazing bravery and courage. My favorite was definitely Free Burma Rangers. I liked that one the most because it is the most intense and very action packed. So many things are happening all at once! I loved them all. It was hard to pick a favorite.”

If you are looking for wholesome audiobooks, we highly recommend Brinkman Adventures!
