Easy Peasy Cursive
{Review}

It is important to us that our children learn to write cursive. When we were blessed with the gift of reviewing our choice of a Channie’s Visual Handwriting & Math Workbooks I knew right away that we had to try Easy Peasy Cursive.

I was going to start out this review with my opinion on why we are learning cursive, but I realized that you wouldn’t have searched Cursive Handwriting or have an interest in this review if you didn’t already have your own opinion and weren’t looking for ways or reasons to practice Cursive. So I will spare you my opinion of why we feel it’s important to learn it and go on with our thoughts of Easy Peasy Cursive by Channie’s Visual Handwriting & Math Workbooks.

What is the Easy Peasy Cursive Workbook?

The Easy Peasy Cursive Workbook is a simple 8.5″ x 11″ work pad containing 80 pages of both tracing and writing practice to reinforce cursive letter formation. The pages contain soothing colors of white and lichen green on thick sturdy paper. I have to say that I love the quality of the paper. It won’t tear if your student wants to erase his work, or leave paper particles. {I am a bit of a paper snob! HA!}

The letters are dotted for easy tracing, and arrows are provided to help guide the student in the direction for easy pencil flow. There are two pages of tracing before a page of independent writing for each letter of the alphabet. Each line is angled for proper slant and provides 3 boxes to help in letter size and formation. In addition, each letter fits into a “box” to show proper spacing. This is extremely helpful to a student that is first learning how to write cursive without picking up the pencil.

Both capital and lower case letters are introduced at the same time together. The workbook consists of (3 pages total for each) each letter of the alphabet and one page (front & back) at the end for word practice.

How we used Easy Peasy Cursive.

My ideas may be a bit different than most. I waited until our children were a little bit older to start teaching cursive. I wanted to be sure they mastered regular manuscript before adding it in. The Easy Peasy Cursive Workbook is suggested for grades 1st to 3rd. However, my son who is using this workbook for cursive practice is 11.

With cursive already being introduced, we used this workbook for practice only. I do suggest that if you are using this workbook as an introduction to cursive writing that you take the time to show proper letter formation first before handing the student the workbook for independent work. I say this because the direction of the arrows can be a bit difficult to follow at times and they may get confused. That was not meant to be a negative, just an observation for us.

We were using Easy Peasy Cursive 2 times a week and part of our handwriting until our son broke his arm playing soccer. We will resume cursive again after he gets his cast off. 😉

Here are the thoughts of our 11 year old:

“I like the lines and how they give where each letter should be. I like that there is so much tracing first before having to write the letter myself. I like that they give you the full alphabet in the beginning. I also like that each “box” is separated.”

The Easy Peasy Cursive Workbook by Channie’s is a great tool for cursive letter practice. With the workbook only priced at $12.95, it is a very reasonable addition for any homeschool.

Will you give it a try?
