In the Reign of Terror
Audio Theater Drama ~ Live the Adventure!
Have you ever listened to an audio theater drama? They are like audio books…. but on steroids! Heirloom Audio Productions has just released the latest addition in their library of audio theater dramas called In the Reign of Terror based off of the G.A. Henty book. We were ever so blessed again to have the honor of reviewing this latest addition.
Before I get into the meat of this review I want to take you back a bit. This is our third review for Heirloom Audio and our kids were just as excited this time as they were the first. When I asked them if they wanted to do a review for the latest released there were literally screams of YES!
Audio Theater dramas are so much more than just an audio book. The first time we reviewed for Heirloom I was expecting one single person reading the story, as in most audio books. That is NOT the case with Heirloom Audio drama’s. It is exactly as it’s labeled, an audio theater drama. It is a play that you listen to and use your imagination. There is a cast of actors, sound effects, and music. The audio is amazing and before you know it you are captivated by all the sounds and the story.
When I mention cast – I mean actors you are most likely familiar with.
Brian Blessed from Star Wars, Tarzan, Robin Hood
John Rhys-Davies from The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones
Cathy Sara from Downton Abbey

In the Reign of Terror
In The Reign of Terror is about an English boy named Harry who travels to France and finds himself in the middle of the Revolutionary War. He has become attached to a particular family and tries to help them escape the unjust that has come down upon them. Harry wants to do what it right and proves to be very heroic and learns very valuable life lessons along the way.
The study guide is is a fantastic tool to use along with the story. In the study guide is the Listening Well – these are questions based on the segment of the audio drama. Great to listening comprehension. There’s also Thinking Further – there are prompts to find specific places mentioned on a map, or open ended questions. Great for thinking skills. In addition to these other study tools there are Defining Words – these can be used in a multitude of ways.
Here’s a glimpse of just some of the additional bonuses through the Live The Adventure Club Bonus Content.
My 9, 11, and 13 year old children love to listen to these audio theater drama’s. We listen to them on longer road trips, rainy days, and even just for fun. They love the feeling of being pulled into the story by the amazing sound effects. We always listen through the entire story the first time around. (because they don’t want to stop) We haven’t officially started our new school year yet, but when we do this will be added into our history studies. I will be printing out the study guide and we will listen to the segments of the story and have a family discussion time each week. This is such an amazing way to learn about the Revolutionary War. For us, this is far more interesting than reading about it text book style!
