Online Math Curriculum
Math can be a stressful subject to teach, especially if you were not gifted with great math skills. For this reason, I was thrilled to receive CTCMath‘s Family Membership for my kids, and right now homeschoolers can get 60% off + 6 bonus months. Doesn’t that sound fantastic? Online math help and a bonus savings.
CTCMath is an online curriculum, complete for Kindergarten thru 8th grade. They offer topics all the way through high school, although it is recommended that you use these as a supplement for the upper grades.
They offer self-paced lessons, affording the child the ability to master the concept before having to move on. The lessons start out with a video explaining the concept and “how to” do the problems. After the video, they are given questions to answer. Your child has two options: he can do them right there in the program, on the screen, or you can print them off as a PDF and do them as a worksheet. The program will show them which answers they got correct and the ones they might have missed. There are also diagnostic tests to view progress or even to use for placement.
There are two different login dashboards. One for the student and one for the parent. Each student will have their own dashboard and login. This makes it convenient for multiple children at multiple levels. The parent login allows you to keep track of each student’s progress, history of lessons completed, grades, and more.
While in the parent dashboard you are given the ability to set up lessons. When they login to their dashboard they can see the lessons you’ve set up for them to work on. One feature I find to be extremely helpful is the ability to set what YOU consider to be a passing grade. Each lesson they do provides them with their score. This makes it quite easy to see if they are ready to move on or review the topic again.
CTCMath was founded by an Australian man named Pat Murray. Mr. Murray has a long career of teaching math. With that being said, the voice you hear on the video lessons are of an Australian accent. The accent did not seem to bother or distract any of my children who are doing the course, but it is worth mentioning.
There are two membership options for homeschoolers: Family Membership and Single Membership. CTCMath also gives you the option of paying monthly or yearly. As in most other offers, the yearly is the cheaper option. Right now CTCMath is offering homeschoolers 60% off the regular price. They also offer a free trial so you can preview before you purchase.
After we received the news that we were gifted a yearly family membership again, our intentions were to use it for just two of our three children. One of them truly enjoys doing worksheets over online programs. About halfway into our review period, said child broke his arm and he found it much easier to do his work online. CTCMath to the rescue!
My Final Thoughts!
I definitely recommend CTCMath for homeschoolers. The lessons are short and to the point, not overwhelming or with long drawn out explanations. At any time the child can pause or go back in the video lesson if he or she isn’t quite understanding. There is no limit to the amount of questions that can practice doing. The teacher doesn’t get frustrated with them if they have to explain the concept multiple times. :::::wink, wink:::::
I could continue praising CTCMath and adding more to my opinion, but for the sake making this post incredibly long I will end it here. If you have any further questions you would like to ask about this review please leave a comment below or email me directly. I look forward to hearing from you,
